I'm not trying to brag (well, I guess I am), but I thought I'd just drop a line and say thanks to all the folks out there who have always supported Blade Runner, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and the overall vision of people like P K Dick.
My father is Brian Kelly, the Executive Producer of the original film and the guy who decided to make the book into a movie.
Blade Runner was his only successful run at making a film. The forces of nature, Hollywood and his own misfortune conspired against him after this one success... But what a success!

your dad is my new hero.
congrats on his vision...that movie was so ahead of it's time, the audience is STILL catching up to it...
-
It's my fave of all time and I think the best film of 1882 (has it really been that long?). I hear that they're finally going to make a movie out of "A Scanner Darkly"
-
-
I mean 1982. I was right...it hasn't been that long :-)
-
-
Yeah, I've actually heard that too, and I'm totally excited.
Of course, there was a rash of making PKD novellas into films recently, and a lot of them didn't turn out so hot... -

-
Thanks for the link, it's good to see that the project is progressing and with a strong cast. Let's keep our fingers crossed that they will produce a faithful version.

Just a curiosity question.. the way the movie ended there seemed, to me, a possibility of a sequel.. has there ever been a possibility of this? And jsut so I'm still on topic here .. I am also a huge fan of the movie.. the book was just amazing... I see this movie as one of the 'movies that made SciFi' just my opinion but I'm sure it's shared here.

Yes indeed. K.W. Jeter has written two authorized sequels (published in 1995 and 1997) which both are available for optioning for film; but no plans have materialized as yet. -
-
Actually, K.W. Jeter has written three sequel Blade Runner books....
-
-
This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.Do tell!
I just checked out Amazon and they only have two.... -
-
K.W. Jeter Bladerunner books:
1- The Edge of Human
2- Edge of Night
3- Eye and Talon
Enjoy! :-) -
-
>>K.W. Jeter Bladerunner books:
>>1- The Edge of Human
Found that one.
>> 2- Edge of Night
Didn't find that one. But I found Replicant Night.
>> 3- Eye and Talon
I've searched everywhere and can't find any references to a third sequel. Please inform. -
-
Ooops, my bad. I meant Replicant night, not Edge of Night. Sorry, was cutting and pasting. I have Eye and Talon, but like all my hardcovers, I shrinkwrap them after reading. I'm heading out for the evening but when I have a moment, I will open it up and give you dates, publisher etc. Deal?

Devin-Tell your father Thank you from all of us.
I heard that the Scanner Darkly movie is going to be animated.
Anyone else hear this?
Richard Linklater the guy who made Waking Life is making the film version of Scanner Darkly and Waking Life was animated.

Unsu...
It's nice to meet you, Devin. I really liked Brian Kelly in Flipper and some of the movies he starred in in the 1960s. He had a motorcycle accident in the 1970s and disappeared from Hollywood. I'm glad he became a producer.
I heard he died earlier this year. Condolences to the family. -

My father passed away on February 12th, two days before his birthday, in a hospital in Vorhees, South New Jersey. He moved to Jersey three years ago to be near my older sister and her now four-year-old daughter. He was in failing health for a long time (primarily as a result of his accident, but also due to liver and colon problems stemming from a long-time alcaholism problem), but the last few years of his life were very happy. He was able to see his daughter get married, meet his first grandchild, see his son (me) graduate from college, and see his daughter finish her master's degree.
We were with him when he died. It was very hard, but it was for the better in the end, particularly given his long history of health problems.
My father, much like Philip K. Dick before him, was a brilliant person who's potential was stripped from him in his prime... We have been trying to have a dedication included for him in the film release of "A Scanner Darkly", but we have yet to hear back from Richard Linklatter or the Studio.
Thank you to everyone who showed support. -
-
Indeed your father must have been a true visionary.
It is obvious the impact that a film like "Bladerunner" has had on so many people's lives. Having left this to the world, well...I think we are all thankful.
I was sorry to hear that he passed. Hollywood is most certainly a cruel bitch... I am sure that your father maintained his integrity, and it sounds as though he won in the end.
Thanks for sharing!
